Who can request a community mending circle?
Any individual or organization can host by providing the space and funding. We do the rest. Community mending circles are well-suited for organizations whose missions include art, wellness, sustainability, community building, or lifelong learning.
This can include:
- Arts and culture organizations including museums, galleries, studios, community centers, and makerspaces fostering creativity and expression.
- Wellness organizations such hospitals or other healing programs fostering physical and mental health including survivorship, support groups, mindfulness, meditation, and stress reduction.
- Educational programs in art, fashion design, environmental sustainability, service programs, classes, and clubs at schools and universities.
- Community- or sustainability-oriented programs at other third places—social spaces that are separate from home and work. These include libraries, parks, streets, markets, cafes, libraries, shops, markets, transit, community centers, and skateparks.
What is involved in hosting?
The hosting organization provides a quiet space. To minimize barriers to entry, the hosting organization funds the program instruction and supplies, which will be free to attendees. All cultures, identities, neurodiversities, and abilities will be welcome. No experience is required.
What supplies will we bring?
We bring all of the needed supplies to the mending circle. Typically, this includes textiles, embroidery needles, sashiko needles, darning needles, sashiko thread, embroidery floss, yarn, needle threaders, thimbles, grips, buttons, grommets, safety pins, scissors, sashiko stencils, embroidery hoops, fabric marking pens, stick ‘n stitch 8-½ x 11”, an iron and small ironing pad, and a darning egg or mushroom.
