Snow day at home? Perfect. ✨ This is one of my favorite moments to slow down, put the kettle on, and give my closet a little love. Think of it as a gentle treasure hunt—not for what to get rid of, but for what’s ready to be revived at our next visible mending circle.
Start by pulling out clothes you already love and wear often. Look closely for holes, stains, thinning fabric, loose seams, or spots that just feel… tired. These are not failures—they’re invitations. Every worn place tells a story and offers the perfect canvas for a patch, a stitch, or a splash of color.
Sock check, mender’s edition 🧦
Here’s a favorite pro tip: slide your hand inside your socks or knits and stretch the fabric slightly. Thinning spots will suddenly become obvious. Catching them early means you can reinforce the area before it turns into a full-on hole. A few rows of darning or needle felting now can save a sock or knit you adore—and make it even cushier and cozier.

More places to look (and what to do):
Elbows & cuffs: These spots wear down fast. Add a playful patch, sashiko-style stitching, or contrasting thread to make them a feature, not a flaw.
Knees of pants: Perfect for bold patches, layered fabrics, or embroidered reinforcements.
Stains that won’t budge: Try covering them with embroidery or appliqué. A stain can become a flower, a constellation, or anything you can dream up.
Collars & underarms: These areas often thin quietly. Reinforce from the inside or add decorative top-stitching to strengthen them with intention.
Buttons & seams: Loose threads are early warning signs—bring them along before they unravel further.
If you’re short on mending candidates, check the back of your drawers, thrifted finds you’ve been “meaning to fix,” or garments you stopped wearing because of one small thing. That one small thing is exactly what visible mending is for.
Remember: visible mending isn’t about making things look new. It’s about making them yours. Bright thread, colorful patches, slow stitches, shared stories—every repair is an act of care and creativity. Bring your pieces, your curiosity, and your questions to the circle. We’ll figure it out together, stitch by stitch. 💛🪡
