Creating in Community…I Felt That!

2–3 minutes

Hello, friends! This past week was all about showing up, making things by hand, and sharing space with people who are just as passionate about creativity and connection. Whether we were patching jeans, trading tips, or simply witnessing each other’s artistic sparks, the energy was real—and I felt that. Here’s a little recap of the week’s events and a glimpse of what’s coming up next. Let’s keep creating in community!

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of teaching Rip, Repair, Repeat where creativity and community came together in full force. The hands-on clothing patching workshop was hosted by Mason Exhibitions Arlington as part of The Invisible Skate Theory exhibit. Participants included an inspiring mix of artists—painters, rappers, graphic designers, songwriters, singers, textile artists, and more—each bringing their unique perspective to the table. It was truly invigorating to be surrounded by people sharing their passions and talents, learning from one another, and collaborating with such generosity and joy.

Tomorrow, Monday, July 28, 1:30-3:00, we will learn needle felting—a fun, easy starter mending project at the Visible Mending Circle at Cherrydale Library. We will repair and strengthen clothing with a woolen felted shape. Bring any knits like a sweater, socks, gloves, mittens, or a scarf to patch a hole OR decorate felted or crocheted fabrics, polar fleece, heavy sweatshirts, or denim. RSVP below if you want a reminder or just show up!

CANCELLED DUE TO WATER DAMAGE Join us on Tuesday night, July 29, from 5 to 7 pm for some fun with sashiko stitching! We’ll be making cool sashiko palm thimbles and cutting upcycled denim into patches to kick off new programs. It’s happening at Cherrydale Library. If you could RSVP, that’d be great so I can make sure to bring enough fabric.

Cast your vote to shape when, where, and how we have our next ongoing Visible Mending Circle. That way I can keep that in mind when designing our next program. Please let me know what works best for you.

Hope to see you soon!
