June Darning & July at the Textile Museum

2–3 minutes

The June 2026 Mending Calendar is here! 🧶

With warmer days ahead, we’re officially entering “sweater repair season” — the perfect time to pull out those woolies, patch up favorite knits, and give well-loved clothes a little extra life before next winter rolls around.

This month’s calendar is full of opportunities to mend alongside the community, learn new techniques, and help keep textiles in use a little longer.

Read on for all the details, including how to participate and how to volunteer as a Mend-tor at the Textile Museum!

Cherrydale Library Circle

Exciting news – the County Board voted to keep Cherrydale Library open!

Our circle day is changing starting in June. We will shift from Mondays 2-4 PM to Tuesdays 2-4 PM.

Monday, May 25 No circle (Library is closed for Memorial Day)

Our large scale hands-on practice piece for Swiss darning

Tuesday, June 2 🧶 Swiss Darning (No Holes) – Alison and Sarah will teach how to duplicate knit loops with a darning needle on samples of intact or thinning knits. Bring any medium- or chunky-gauge knits or practice on sample knits.

Tuesday, June 9 Open Lab

Tuesday, June 16 🧶 Swiss Darning Over Holes – Alison and Sarah will teach how to prepare holes knits and mend them with thread as scaffolding and a duplicate stitch. Bring any medium- or chunky-gauge knits or practice on sample knits.

Tuesday, June 23 Open Lab

Tuesday, June 30 🧶 Scotch Darning – Learn how to use this blanket stitch in a grid pattern to mend holes and edges. Bring any textile item.

Darning is a great all ages activity because we use a blunt needle on knits to avoid splitting the yarns. So feel free to bring along any younger friends of family members with you.

WANT TO CO-LEAD? We could use a co-lead for our Cherrydale Library Visible Mending Circle for times when Alison is not available. It is helpful to have basic knowledge of where supplies are in our mending cart (easy) and a willingness to share skills or learn more. Contact Alison at alison@artonthemend.org if you are interested.
